Taking promised cards off CardTrader

If your stock lives on CardTrader and you trade here too, a card you promise in a trade here is still for sale there until the trade is done. Somebody can buy it there in the meantime, and then you have sold it twice.

Update my CardTrader stock closes that window. When you accept a trade here, we take those copies off your CardTrader stock; if the trade is cancelled, we put them back. It is off until you switch it on.

It is the other half of the sync. The sync, every five minutes or in seconds with instant sync of a CardTrader sale, takes what you sell there off here. This takes what you promise here off there.

What it changes, and what it never touches

When it writes

Accepting a trade never waits on CardTrader. If CardTrader is down, the trade here goes ahead and the write waits its turn.

If something goes wrong, you see too few, never too many

A write that has not gone through yet, or one that failed, leaves CardTrader showing fewer copies than you hold — a sale you might miss — and never more, which is a card you would sell twice. A write that failed is tried again on its own: quickly at first, then once an hour for as long as its trade needs it — including after the trade is done, since those copies would still be on sale there — while your connection works and Update my CardTrader stock is on. Putting copies back is tried for a day at most: after that the trade tells you to put them back by hand, so they are never put back twice. One whose answer got lost is never sent again until we have read your stock back and seen it did not land, so one trade never takes two copies off.

Two cases worth knowing

The last copy. Taking the last copy off makes CardTrader delete the product, because it has no product with zero copies. If that trade is then cancelled, we create the product again from what we know about it — the card, the price, the condition, the language and whether it is foil — and the trade tells you to check its description there, because your own description does not come back.

Already sold there. If somebody bought the copy on CardTrader before we could take it off, we take off what is left and the trade says so. We never cancel the trade for you: you and the trader decide what to do.

Switching it on

1. In your shop's dashboard, open The store and scroll to Synchronisation. Your CardTrader account has to be connected there first.

2. Turn on Update my CardTrader stock.

3. Before anything is written, we tell you how many copies from trades you have already accepted come off CardTrader now. If that is right, press Switch on.

Switching it off, or disconnecting

Turning Update my CardTrader stock off hands your CardTrader stock back to you: from then on we write nothing there at all. Accepting a trade no longer takes copies off, and cancelling one no longer puts them back — not even for copies we took off before you switched it off. The confirmation tells you how many copies are off CardTrader right now because of trades here: if those trades fall through, putting them back is yours to do by hand. Press Switch off to confirm.

Switching it on again takes off the copies of trades you accept from then on, and of any open trade we had not yet written for. It does not go back over what was waiting when you switched it off: that stays yours.

Disconnect removes your token, so we can no longer write anything, and the same applies: before you confirm, we tell you how many copies are off CardTrader because of trades here, and if those trades fall through, putting them back is yours to do by hand.

Where to see what happened

Every trade that wrote to CardTrader says so on the trade itself: taken off, waiting to be, could not be and why, already sold there, put back, or put back as a new product. While a trade is agreed, the same line shows under Requests → Agreed.

If your CardTrader connection stops working — your token refused, or CardTrader not answering for over an hour — a warning appears at the top of your dashboard and we let you know by email and push — once for the problem, not once per failed write. A refused token needs a fresh one pasted on your store page; an outage needs nothing, and the warning clears by itself as soon as CardTrader answers again.
